Mission Statement

To use the Church’s philosophical and theological wisdom to uncompromisingly teach the Catholic Faith and prepare high school youth for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Ministry Description

Confirmation preparation is a two-year back-to-back high school program. All those seeking to enter into immediate prep in order to be confirmed in the Spring must first complete Year 1 formation the year prior with at least 70% attendance. If your teen desires to enter Confirmation preparation, they will begin meeting on Sundays from 3:00 – 4:20 PM in the Fall and Spring (see schedule). Below are some of the expectations for those seeking to be confirmed:

  • Must register for High School Confirmation Faith Formation
  • Pay regular faith formation fee plus the additional associated costs for Sacrament Year Prep, which is $250 per candidate total
  • Nota bene: Each student has the right to Catholic formation and no student will be denied participation due to funding (please contact your program director for more details)
  • Must submit a new baptismal record from Church of Baptism by the Fall semester
  • Please do not turn in a copy of your child’s original record (the archdiocese requires a new record for Confirmation)
  • If your child was baptized at Mary Queen, please fill out the “Request for Baptismal verification” form given at first parent meeting
  • Must have at least 80% attendance rate on Sunday evenings during Year 2
  • Must have participated in retreat experiences before the Rite of Confirmation
  • While there are many different retreats the archdiocese offers, Mary Queen provides its own if students decide not attend any of those offered by the archdiocese
  • The Confirmation retreat is mandatory during teen’s confirmation immediate prep year
  • Candidate should be able to renew baptismal promises, exhibit an active faith life and knowledge of the Church, and participate in the sacramental life of the Church
  • When people get confirmed, they make a Profession of Faith; meaning, they announce before God, the Church and the witnesses present that they “firmly accept and hold each and everything definitively proposed by the Church regarding teaching on faith and morals” (Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Profession of Faith, 1998)

Confirmation may be celebrated during the high school years for any student in 10th, 11th or 12th grades who are in compliance with the Confirmation requirements above.
