For the first time ever, the fascinating true story surrounding the original work of art once commissioned by St. Faustina and painted in Vilnius, Lithuania, by an uncelebrated artist, is finally being told in a new documentary, The Original Image of Divine Mercy.
The Original Image of Divine Mercy features exclusive interviews with first-hand eye-witnesses, as well as Bishop Robert Barron of Los Angeles (Word on Fire); Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC: George Weigel biographer of Pope Saint John Paul II and author of Witness to Hope; Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz (Kraków); Cardinal Christoph Schönborn, Archbishop of Vienna; author Fr. Leo Maasburg, spiritual director and confessor to Blessed Mother Teresa; Fr. Dwight Longenecker (Standing on My Head); and many others.
The film also features conversations about the importance of Art in culture with American comedian Jim Gaffigan (The Jim Gaffigan Show), and multiple Grammy and Emmy Award-winning musician Harry Connick, Jr. (American Idol), and Fr. Karl Wallner from the Cistercian Abbey in Stift Heiligenkreuz, Austria, home to the Billboard chart-topping Chant CDs.
This independent film was shot across the U.S. and Europe and features never-before-seen close-up images of the original painting in Vilnius (Lithuania), the permanent home of the Original Image. The Original Image of Divine Mercy has been officially endorsed by the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization, as well as Cardinal Christoph Schönborn, Archbishop of Vienna and President of the World Apostolic Congress on Mercy (WACOM), and by Archbishop Gintaras Grušas of Vilnius.
The Original Image of Divine Mercy will be playing at Mary Queen Catholic Church on Divine Mercy Sunday!
